Search for UK’s Game Chef of the Year begins

A nationwide search to find the UK’s Game Chef of the Year will launch on Monday (2nd September).  

The competition which is now in its third year is organised by Braehead Foods, one of Britain’s largest game suppliers and supported by The Staff Canteen and Highland Game.

The competition will involve a five-month search to find the best upcoming, professional game chef in the UK.  Contestants will be challenged to cook up fresh, innovative dishes using some of the finest game produce the UK has to offer.

Competition entries are expected from across the UK with the final being held in The Cook School Scotland in Kilmarnock.

Managing Director of Braehead Foods, Craig Stevenson says “as one of the UK’s main suppliers of game, we are committed to providing our clients with the best produce the UK can offer. There are chefs across Britain creating and serving game in imaginative and delicious ways and we want to continue to recognise this.”

10 finalists will each receive £100 cash plus will have the opportunity to prepare, cook and present two game bird based dishes to the panel of judges; Michelin star chefs Tom Kitchin and Martin Wishart, plus Joe Queen, Executive Chef at Braehead Foods and Ian McAndrew of the Academy of Culinary Arts.

The overall winner will receive a once in a lifetime trip to the snow covered woodlands of the north of Sweden where they will hunt wild boar, courtesy of Highland Game. Second and third place will also have the chance to enjoy a deer stalking trip on a Highland Estate.
